The New York metro area Japanese newspaper, "Yomitime", recently featured The City Quilter.
In November, 2008, Time/Warner's NYC cable news channel NY1 profiled The City Quilter because of its high ratings in Zagat's New York City Shopping Guide. About 2,500 retailer are evaluated.

For the past two years we've been designated as New York's top fabric and/or notions store in "quality."
City Quilter owners, Cathy Izzo and Dale Riehl, traveled to Japan in November to attend the Yokohama International Quilt Week exhibition in order to see these wonderful quilts, but also to spend time discovering new vendors. A selected picture gallery of their trip can be seen here.
|Last year, WNBC-TV's wonderful "Wednesday's Child" adoption placement program featured a teenager that learned some basic quilting skills with Judy Doenias at The City Quilter. That delightful young woman is sadly still seeking a real home. You can watch just this 5 minute sequence on Channel 4's web site: http://video.wnbc.com/player/?id=90510||
|The City Quilter's owner, Cathy Izzo, was "Quilter of the Month" in January, 2008, at Manhattan's Empire Guild, where she showed some of the quilts she's made. This is her "Schoolhouse" quilt. Some background on Cathy as well as the rest of the quilts she showed can be seen on the Guild's web site: www.empirequilters.net|
|In celebration of The City Quilter's 10th anniversary this past year, we organized an exhibition of 45 quilts started (and sometimes finished!) in one of our classes. The show serves to highlight the work of the more than 3,500 students that have taken our classes over the past decade.
This quilt showcase took place at the Williams Club from January 15th through March 2, 2008. The Club estimates that well over a 1,000 viewed the quilts. Photos from the opening reception can be seen here.
25 City Quilter-themed blocks were contributed by the shop's friends in honor of our first decade, and these were made into a 10th Anniversary City Quilter Quilt that can be seen from time-to-time in the shop, and always on our web site.
Our shop opened on February 18th, 1997 one block south of our present location. That first store was just 850 square feet, but we somehow managed to fit 1,200 bolts, a classroom and an office in what was a “cozy” environment. We were reborn in October, 2003 when we moved into a space that is more than 3 times larger.
"Shop Hops" in the August/September 2007 issue of QUILTS magazine features The City Quilter.
|QUILTS JAPAN magazine commissioned The City Quilter's
Cathy Izzo to
write three articles about quilting in the U.S.
This first article was in the May issue and is about The City Quilter. The second is about quilting in New York City, and appears in the July, 2007 edition.
|The New York City Council honored The City Quilter and its
City life in 2007 with a Proclamation
celebrating our 10th Anniversary.
|The City Quilter is proud to have been selected as one of the twenty BEST OF
QUILT SAMPLER shops out of the 150 featured over many
years. This special "bookazine" was published in Spring, 2007.
Accompanying the article is our own Judy Doenias' "Midnight in Times Square" quilt-as-you go project. Copies are for sale at our shop as well as at quilt shops, chain stores, bookstores, and supermarkets nationwide.

|The City Quilter was selected
by Zagat's 2007 New York Shopping guide as the best "fabric/notions"
store in the "quality" category in New York City.
We are pleased and amazed that a shop focused on quilters (and other fiber artists) and that is outside the Garment District would receive the top honor. In overall terms, this places us on "quality" par with Tiffany, Takashimaya, Valentino, Piaget, and Saks, among others.
In Zagat's "service" category, The City Quilter's "26" rating ranked the store with Cartier, Ghurka, Armani, and Baccarat.
